Subject: URGENT: I’m signing this interfaith letter. I hope you will too.

Body:

Dear Friend,

I’m writing to invite you to sign on to an interfaith letter urging the U.S. Senate to reject the “Save Our Bacon” (SOB) amendment, Section 12006 of the House Farm Bill.

Despite its name, this amendment is no small thing. It would preempt more than 600 state and local laws, nullify animal welfare laws enacted by voters in California and Massachusetts, and permanently strip states of the ability to regulate how meat sold within their borders is produced. It has already failed as the “King Amendment,” as the EATS Act, and in seven lawsuits — including one that reached the conservative U.S. Supreme Court in 2023. Now the pork industry is trying again.

Faith traditions ranging from Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Unitarian Universalist, to many others share a deep concern for the unnecessary suffering of animals and for the integrity of democratic processes. This letter brings those voices together.

I hope you will add yours. You can sign as an individual faith leader or on behalf of a faith organization.

I would also be very grateful if you would share this with others in your networks who might want to sign.

Thank you!
