Suzanna and I are in Italy to celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary and today we are in the beautiful Tuscan hill town of Siena. Yesterday, we visited the Basilica of San Domenico and Catherine’s sanctuary. Catherine was a humble woman who was devoted to Jesus, the poor, and spreading peace throughout fourteenth century Italy.

Catherine was humble. When you are humble, you put the needs of others above your own. Catherine was famous for giving her family’s food and clothing to the poor. A humble person does not need lots of possessions, she learns to live with less, to share with others, and to perform acts to answer the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor. We can learn from Catherine’s example.

Working together, we can help take care of our common home.
