In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. His gift to all of us was creation itself. And we all benefit from the gift of creation everyday of our lives. At the same time, creation is suffering greatly from human-induced climate change due to man’s disregard for God’s handiwork and our oversized carbon footprints.
As we prepare to celebrate the anniversary of the birth of Jesus and greet the new year, what better time is there to make a commitment to God that we will work harder to care for creation, lessen our carbon footprints, work towards climate justice, and preserve our planet for generations to come? This is the most important gift we can give this Christmas.
